WATER CONSUMPTION
ABUSE AT PALMERSTON
COUNCIL TAKES ACTION
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
The remarkable fact that more water is used at night than in the daytime at present has been revealed to the Palmerston North City Council, and the explanation is that hoses are allowed to run unattended under coyer of darkness, despite the total ban on this means of watering gardens, imposed by the municipal authorities.
The council last evening decided to engage twenty inspectors to detect offenders and to give public warning that if the position does not improve within a week further restrictions such as the closing of all swimming baths, the watering of gardens even by water can, etc., will have to be enforced rigidly.
The engineer reported that the Tiritea reservoir contained enough water to serve the city for three weeks.
