MELBOURNE MAN ARRESTED
LONDON, February 3.
The "Daily Mail'st' '■ Paris correspondent says that the! French' police claim tliat the largest gang of international^ swindlers withwhidh -they, have ever" dealt has been . broken up following the arrest of two alleged, ringleaders, a Melbourne man and an' American. A gang of fifteen is believed to include Americans,- -Australians, Britons, and Canadians. It -allegedly fleeced victims in Germany, England, Switzerland, and Italy of tens of; thousands of podnds by means of confidence tricks. ■ . . . •■.■
The Melbourne man's: luggage contained forged barik-nioles wrapped in genuine £-100 Bank of England notes. He allegedly cpnfessed and/attributed his downfall to'drink arid'drugs! Entries in his pocket-boeyk revealed the gang's headquarters, where an American was arrested. The others escaped. Much opium was found;
