COLLIES AND JUSTICE
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In the name of justice and fair play I desire to protest against the condemnation ■ and death . penalty imposed upon- an Alsatian when just within the last two weeks two collie dogs have savagely attacked" two girls without provocation, one so badly that the victim is in hospital, yet in neither case do ■we hear of the destruction to the collie being ordered. In fact the Magistrate in one instance admonished the owner not to keep the dog always chained up, yet in, Friday's paper we read of .the destruction'of an Alsatian being ordered by a Magistrate. Surely if,the Court were aware of attacks by other'breeds of dogs the Magistrate would not say that the Alsatian is unreliable in his temper in comparison, with, other breeds. It does seem only British and fair that the same justice should be met to all breeds and owners, not one law for Alsatians and another for collies, etc. In the case to which I refer the com. plainant did not give evidence against the dog but declared the dog was not vicious and did not want the dog to be destroyed. Surely there should be no prejudice against the Alsatian when it is realised that from time immemorial dogs have bitten, long before the Alsatian ever existed.—l am etc., '
