QUIET AT TRENTHAM

LITTLE FAST GALLOPING WOTAN AND HIS FUTURE (By "Eangatna") A visit to Tienlham this morning found the tracks very quiet. Very few of the teams in work will be racing again till the next Wellington Meeting, but a few horses'may make the trip to Woodvillc dt the end of the month. Most of the noises physicked after the lccenl meeting have not yet resumed serious tasks Tne course proper has been leset since /the recent 'meeting, and the automatic sprayers arc again in legular opeiation The giass has also been cut, so that the sole should be strengthened for the diy spell that appears likely dunng the next counle of months Wotan was back on the track this morning, and he will not be lacing again at immediate meetings He did well on the trip, rather benefiting from lightening up a little There is talk of him and Le Grand being sent over to Sydney for the autumn racing, as neither has classic engagements here, but nothing is yet decided and in any case T. R. George will not be able to go across with them if the trip is undertaken Mearrtvhile Le Grand (Posterity—Eulogy) ls going along in impioved style, though he is still very lumbersome, and he may !;e given a lace at Woodvillc to see how he shapes Pegged Exchange, who will shortly resume racing, probably at Woodville, is beginning to improve a'lot in appearance and he is working soundly without being required yet to go along fast He is now in C. Pntchard's care. Capetown has joined up with Hybiscus in J. Nelson's charge. He looks in healthy condition but will not be raced till tracks become easier. Nelson is settling Hybiscus down to his new surroundings before working him seriously. Both these horses -are owned by Mr. W. Smart, who has been out of the game for several years, and whose return to active participation, along with several other former owners of note, is one of the pleasing features of the last few weeks m the Dominion's racing world.R W A. Lewis has Billy Boy acting tutor for his two novices, the three-year-old Shy (Valkynan — Stage Fright)'and a two-year-old gelding by Roydon from the Valkynan mare Valrewa Shy is developing into a handsome individual and'later on he should pay his way. " The Roydon gelding, who is on the small side but compact, was worked along this morning in company with' Capetown. Gold Vein, who developed shinsoreness during the holidays and was letup,is back again in work, and she led Le Grand at the end of three furlongs this morning, but no serious pace was on, and Le Grand has the cun-> ning of his family in him At the' weekend Le Grand executed his best trial to date, so he can obviously gallop when required. T R George did not leturn with Wotan but went on to New Plymouth with Virico, a four-year-old halfbrother by Grand Knight to Wasteland, and who started twice at the recent Wellington Meeting but was left each time. Vmco would be a prospect this week with a decent getaway, as he has shown, he knows how to gallop " Diiung'George's absence EPenmani has. charge of the "Bieniwood" team -, s The T^-entham horseman S Wilson will Tdc riding at New Plymouth, and his .mounts will bo Lalla Quex, Limulus, .Vinco, Taitoru, Colenso, and Debut. Other riding engagements announced are: R Reed, Hazoor, Brown Betty, Red Rufus, Hunt the Slipper, Ringside, and Golden Win^s (second day); B H. Moms, Cherry King and Mother Superior, and L G Morris, Diatomous and Pladie.
