A decree has been issued by the German Government in regard to correspondence of school children. It is as follows (states the Red Cross Bulletin):— ' .■-.■':"■'''
"I recommend school authorities to do all in their power to encourage and promote inter-school correspondence with foreign countries^ bearing always in mind the following principles: '. "Inter-school correspondence between the children of Germany and. those of other lands represents a means of awakening mutual sympathy and comprehension, and of learning more about the customs and mentality, of other races.' .Through tills ioiUaet with the people of other. nations, ,the.child, will .gain a greater, irisightinto.the chifaeter of his own people; • At th"S sSiue iim§, he sh'Su'ld'never forget tliat his correspond ent^will^lpok^upon; him as a represents. jtive of his iace and that, upon .his attitude will largely depend the "foreigner's opinion of the German people. ■ t ■ "Scholars wishing to take part ■in j sucli correspondence; should be well versed in German grammar and spelling. Where correspondence, with- English and French-speaking countries is. concerned, they should also be acquainted with these two languages. . | "In view of the possible influence of inter-school correspondence on German prestige - abroad, such correspondence should be very carefully supervised. Political subjects should bo treated with the greatest reserve to avoid giving rise to regrettable misunderstandings: It is important that teachers should give more attention than in. the past to inter-school correspondence and should treat it as part of the schqoU curriculum."
