STRAIN OF BIG TENNIS
MRS. MOLESWORTH STEPS
DOWN
in games that centre in championships, there may be less pleasure at the top than half-way up. Fred Perry has written on the hard lot of tennis champions, and now a Brisbane message, dated January 18, states: —
"Mrs. Molesworth, an outstanding player in the tennis world for a decade, and twice national singles champion; who recently returned from a world tour, has announced that she will take no further part in Australian championships.
"Mrs. Molesworth explained today that in big tennis, the strain, mental and physical, often was intense, and >i she wished'to retire while fit and well. ] She would, however, take part in future Queensland championships, although: she strongly advocated, that they be held in cooler weather."
A blind girl was among those who passed the Queensland Junior Public examination, the results of which were announced in Brisbane on January 23. She is Kathleen Mercy Griffin, 15. the daughter of a Rockhampton railway official. She lost her sight in an attack of meningitis when she was six years old. Miss Griffin gained three first-class, three second-class, and three third-class passes in nine subjects for which she sat. These were English. French, £atm, English history, geography, algebra, arithmetic, geometry, and physiology.
