SWIMMING
A large number of members of tho University Swimming Club attended the first of a series of weekly club nights held recently at the Thorndon Baths. After a short programme of competitive events, a game of water polo was played, and training and coaching were held. The re.sults of :the events held are as follows: — ' 33 l-3yds Freestyle Handicap.—Stannaway, 1; W. Patterson, 2; Horsley, 3. 66 2-3 yds Breaststroke Handicap.—Archibald, 1;'- Carlyon, 2. Diving:—J. Watson, 1; Hall, 2. Relay Race.—Mason's team (Mason, Donnovan, McGill), 1; Ennis's teani (Ennis, O'Connor, Wainwright), 2. There were eleven starters in the club's harbour race last Friday. The course was from the Star Boating Club's shed to Queen's Wharf and back, a distance of about half a mile. The result was as follows: O'Connor, 1; Carlyon, 2; Archibald,! 3. ' - ' ■•-._'
A .great artificial ice stadium at Garmisch, in Bavaria, has been prepared for the 1936 Olympiad. The stadium provides accommodation for 10,000 spectators, and an adjoining building provides baths and showers, a restaurant, and telephone , cabins.
