MINING NEWS
The mine manager of Skippers, Limited, submits the following report on mining work at Maori Point during the past fortnight:—'"After the first flood on the 7th of the month every endeavour was made to straighten things up, and to recommence paddock work. The paddock was rebottomed on the 16th, but on tlie 17th another similar flood came down and the paddock was again filled in completely. Since then there have been five more floods, each of which was over the sis-feet level, and in consequence no work could be done, excepting that blueguni piles have been driven on the river, side of the paddock and spare flume plates have been fixed to these to act as a groyne to throw the force "of the flood water away from our excavation, which is about in the centre of the old river channel. During the last few days, the weather has cleared up, and we are again at paddock work and it is expected that the bottom will be cleared before February 4, when the gold boxes will be put in position. It is to be regretted that such unusual weather has been experienced, as the prospects were most encouraging, and it is expected that given a clear run' the results will be such that the confidence of the directors will be vindicated."
