Mr. D. A. Gill, who has been attached to the Veterinary School in Sydney for some time past, returned to Wellington yesterday from Sydney. He has been absent on leave from the Department of Agriculture and is returning to take up the position of District Superintendent of the Wellington Province.

Dr. C. S. M. Hopkirk, who has been attending the Congress of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science, in Melbourne, returned to Wellington yesterday from Sydney. ■ - ■ '■% -.'•■■'..:■■

Mr. A. G. McGowan, who' is leaving with Mrs. and Miss McGowan tomorrow on a six months' trip to England, was farewelled yesterday afternoon by fellow-members of the management committee of the Wellington Boxing Association. He was also granted leave of absence until the annual meeting of the association: with- the right to be nominated for the committee at the meeting. The chairman bi the committee (Mr. A. Jacobs) re-; ferred to the valuable work Mr. McGowan had done for the association, particularly in. connection with the advertising of tournaments, and as a referee and an announcer.. He expressed the best wishes of ,the 'association for the success and enjoyment of the trip-to be made by Mr. and Mrs: McGowan and their daughter. Mr. Jacobs's remarks were supplement ed by Messrs. A. Curtayne, B. A. Guise, L. Salek, W. G: Talbot (secretary), D. Kean, and G. A. Broad.1 In reply, Mr. McGowan said that lie derived nothing but pleasure from his association wih the boxing game. Mr. McGowan, who is general manager of Greater Australasian Films, was tendered a luncheon yesterday at the Royal Oak Hotel by the Film Exchanges Association of New Zealand, and wus presented with a suitcase, suitably inscribed. Mr. S. H. Craig, manager of the.Paramount Film Service and president of the association, who presided, spoke in eulogistic terms vof Mr McGowan. Other speakers -were M*SSI S- W, W.
