MONOWAI'S FAST TRIP
HITCH IN CLEARING
The Monowai has made another very fast trip, across the Tasman Sea from Sydney to Wellington. She left Sydney at 1.20 p.m. last Friday with nearly 340 travellers, on board and arrived in the stream at Wellington shortly after noon today, the trip having been made in under three days. The Monowai holds both the Sydney-Welling ton and the Wellington-Sydney records, her last trip'having been speeded up in order to have the ship cleared of cargo prior- to. her sailing on a cruise to Milford, Sound this. evening. Customs officials were en board ihe Government tug ' Janie Seddon today to meet the Monowai in the stream, but the ship did not stop for them and the Janie Seddon had to return to'the wharf while the .Monbwai berthed at the Queen's Wharf. It had been intended today to revert to the old system of clearing the inward-bound Sydney liner in the stream. Owing'to the delay which resulted from the lack of co-ordination between ship and Government ■ authorities some delay was occasioned in clearing the ship, and her passengers were not free to leave her until about 1.45 p.m.
