DOMINION'S GAME FISH

AMERICAN PAYS TRIBUTE

Making his fourth visit to New Zealand for the purpose of deep-sea fishing; Dr. George B. Pierce, of New York, | arrived today by the Makura from San Francisco.

Dr. Pierce is a great admirer of New Zealand and New Zealanders. The country, he told a "Post" reporter, offered the best fishing in the world, while the people soon endeared themselves to overseas visitors. Dr. Pierce recalled that during his Jasf visit he hooked a huge black marlin off Russell, which after twelve and a half hours' fight broke the tackle and escaped. During the fish's struggle to free itself, it towed the launch from which Dr. Pierce was fishing twenty miles out to sea. "It must have been one of the largest fish ever hooked," he said with pride.
