INTERESTING WEDDING

BLUNDELL—JOHNSTON

A wedding celebrated out of d6ors, in a lovely garden, in the shelter of a beautiful plane tree, may be said to approach the ideal in the way of a setting, and that of Caroline Margaret Featherston, daughter of the Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston and Mrs. Johnston (nowof.Christchurch), to Percy Warwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. F. Blundell, of Heretaunga, certainly approached that ideal. The ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon, at the home of the bride's grandparents, the Hon. Sir Francis and Lady Bell, of Lowry Bay, Wellington, the Rev. Father Milligan officiating. The altar was arranged under a wide-spreading plane tree, and massed around were blue hydrangeas, the wide lawns and flower borders in summer beauty, and as the bridal procession came through trees and shrubs from the house, the scene was a delightful one. Seats for the guests were arranged in rows, and a crimson beige runner was placed from the house to the altar. The bride was escorted by her father, her artistic gown being of magnolia satin with the slightest tinge of pink. The Court-length train was inset with net, arranged from the waist, and with a cluster of pearl flowers at the front of the waist line. The veil of misty tulle, fell over the whole length of the train, and was arranged with a coronet of pearls in flower form. A string of pearls (the gift of an aunt in England), a sheaf of lilium auratum, of the same tone as the frock, completed a charming ensemble. The bridesmaids were Misses Sheila MacGregpr (Hastings), Penelope Blundell. Heather MacKenzie (cousin), M. Levin (cousin), Margaret Whyte, and little Priscilla Bell (cousin). The elder bridesmaids were in classically-cut frocks of, mariette, exactly matching that of the bride. The bodices were high in.the front, shirred, and with shoulder capes, edged with narrow frills, finished at the back with tiny buttons to tone. At the back of the waist were folded belts with rosettes

in the centre and long ends to thei edge of the short trains of jade green | ribbon. The head dresses were of pearl flowers with jade green stems, and each carried a rope of pale pink polyantha roses, arranged round the wrist, and with-trails of delicate green and brown foliage to the skirt hems. They carried also the gifts of the/ bridegroom, dainty evening bags, matching ] their frocks. The little bridesmaid (Priscilla Bell) wore a Kate Greenaway frock of the mariette, and a jade green. sash, and carried a , Victorian posy of the polyantha rosejs. There were two pages, Michael Bell (cousin), and David White (Masterton), the, former carrying the bride's train. These two were charmingly dressed in Greenaway suits, with magnolia satin tops and jade green satin trousers. Mr. Denis Blundell was best man, and Messrs. Denis Young, Peter Johnston, Ted Zohrab, and Herbert Richardson (Christchurch) were groomsmen After the ceremony a charming surprise was given the guests, as following a few clear cornet notes "Aye Maria"' was sung by Signor Cesaroni, his fine voice (accompanied by the cornet) coming from the foliage at the back of the altar, as he was not in sight of the guests. Then the charming bridal procession returned to the house, and was grouped on the steps of the verandah, where the guests gave their good wishes to the bride and bridegroom, after having been received further along the lawn by Sir Francis and Lady Bell, and the Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston and Mrs. Johnston. N ] The Ist Battalion Wellington Regi-I mental Band was in attendance, and played the Wedding March from Lohengrin as the bride and attendants went towards the altar, and on their return Mendelssohn's Wedding March. Lady Bell wore ~ frock of -powder blue lace and chiffon and a large black hat, her bouquet being of pale yellow roses; Mrs. Harold Johnston was in black chiffon patterned" with cornflowers and poppies, and a wide hat, and bouquet of flame and red rosesMrs. H. P. F. Blundell (mother of the bridegroom), slate blue marocain, with yoke of steel beads, a hat to match, and carrying a bouquet of roses shading from pink to wine colour; Mrs. H. Rolleston (aunt of the bride), frock of grey lace, and large blue hat; Mrs. G. Denniston (aunt of the bride), putty lace frock, and blue hat, bouquet ol roses and delphiniums; Miss Bell, navy and white crepe de chine, large navy blue hat; Miss Barbara Blundell (sister of the bridegroom), white and green stiffened chiffon, and matching hat; Mrs. Cheviot Bell, brown-figured crepe de chine, and brown hat. THE WEDDING BREAKFAST. The wedding breakfast was set in a large marquee; the bride's table centred by the handsome wedding cake, decorated in the same magnolia tints, and with the initials of bride and (bridegroom intertwined. This was

set among red carnations, flanked with slender crystal vases of smilax. The cake was decorated with .deep cream carnations, tree lily of the valley, asparagus trails, and a floral "Blue Bird of Happiness" was suspended over the table, and waved gently in the light breeze. Around the marquee were festoons of ferns and flowers. The guests1 buffet tables were arranged with low bowls of gerbera, zinnias, and trailing fern, rising from beds of dahlias. Overhead were many baskets of gladioli and ferns. ■ The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, and the bridegroom responded. Other speeches were made by Sir Francis Bell, Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston, Mr. Lan Duncan, and Mr. Denis Blundell. After a very pleasant time, the guests enjoyed the garden, and later the bride and bridegroom left for a tour, the bride wearing a patou-pink frock and hat, and smartly-cut brown coat. The bridegroom's gift to her was a handsomely-fitted green dressing case. Lady Bell's gift to the bndal couple was a handsome canteen of silver, the bride's mother presenting her .with a sapphire and diamond ring and bracelet. RELATIVES PRESENT.
