BUTTER FIRM, CHEESE STEADY

The market for New Zealand butter in London is: firm, arid there has been a further increafce^in prices during the week, including a rise of Id per pound in the retail rate, according to the1 weekly report received by cable today by the, New Zealand Dairy Produce Board. Wholesale:quotations are:—-Butter, New Zealand salted, 87s to 90s per cwt. (which equals approximately 10.3d per lb, f.0.b.), compared.'with 84s to 85s last week; unsalted, 02s to 945; Australian, 87s to 88s; Danish, spot, 118s (market quiet). " The retail' price for New Zealand butter has been increased to lid per pound, while Danish is selling at Is 2d. The butter • stock ■ position is as follows:— Feb. 1, '35. Feb. 1, '34: Tons. • Tons. New Zealand .. 5644 3750 Australian ......2534 6400 Sl7B 10,150 The cheese market is steady, and New Zealand cheese is still selling retail at 6d per pound. Wholesale rates are:—New Zealand, .white 47s to 47s 6d per cwt (which equals approximately 5.05 d per pound, f.0.b.),- compared with 45s to 46s last week; coloured, 46s 6d to 475; Australian, .white-and coloured, 45s to 45s 6d; Canadian, white and coloured, 58s to 60snnest English farmers', 82s to 90s. . The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada:— Butter, New York, 37% cents per pound; Montreal, 24% cents. The minimum f.o.b. prices until further notice will be:—-Butter, 10% d per poundcheese, 0% (both less 1% per cent, commission) . Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., have received from their principals, Trengrouso and Nathan, Ltd., London, the following cabled advice, dated February' I:—New Zealand butter, 90s per cwt; very firm. New Zealand cheese, white 47s to 47s 6d per cwt, coloured 46s 6d; firm.
