STATEMENT BY MAYOR
TOO LATE TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS
The above letter was referred to the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop), who said he was not' aware that Captain ' McGregor and Mr. Walker were arriving on the Monowai on Monday, , but he believed arrangements were in hand with the Manawatu Aero Club concerning a tour of New Zealand by Captain McGregor, and Mr..'Walker : in conjunction with Hewett and Kay. > The Mayor said that so far as he was concerned he would be delighted to give Captain McGregor a civic reception and honour him as he richly deserved. If it was a fact that Captain McGregor was arriving on Monday, it was too late today to make arrangements. ( There was no doubt, howovcr, 'that opportunity would be taken to give a reception to Captain McGregor when, during the tour the flyers would be making in New Zealand, they arrived in Wellington. Personally, Mr. Hislop said ho knew nothing ■ about Captain McGregor's arrival on Monday. RECEPTION LATEE, The letter was referred also to Mr. B. Furkert, secretary of the Wellington Aero Club, who said arrangements were in hand to give Captain. McQregor and Mr. Walker a big reception when the flyers arrived in Wellington in the course of their New, Zealand tour.
