' • : /■■ ' : The Earl of Northesk exhibited a clever «ibdel of an express passenger locomotive, and Major-General J. B. Forster's contributions. were two invenr tions for a lathe.' The doctors, barristers, .and other's, were, between them, responsible for models 'of barques, motor-coaches; airliners, and nearly everthirig else that floats,' runs on wheels, or flies. . . . ' Aif-exhibit of exceptional interest in the ship-model section : was a group of models of coracles andcurraghs, shown by ■ L.ieut.-Conimander J. H. Craine, These qiaint' craft are faithful copies to scale- of the remarkable boats used by. the'salmon fishermen in Wales, and by the fishermen and boatmen of ■ the Irish coast. .', • '' ', The Boyne curraghs, hide-covered, rudderless vessels, shaped like a basin, are almost exactly the same as the coracles used bytho ancient Britons; and are the only hide-covered vessels still in use in Europe. ■■ . .' .' ' ■ ' A beautiful example of miniature craftsmanship, in the exhibition was _a tiny model of a Stradivanus viohn, made by Mr. B. Van der-Neulen.i It w only 2in long, and took two years to m3After he\had completed it Mr. Van der Neulenvsu«ered so severely from eye-strain that he was unablelo do any fine work for eighteen months. It is made from tortoiseshcll, mother-of-pearl and gold, and is valued at £150. Another yaluabTe mod«l in the exhibition was that 'of the L.N r KR. locomotive, " Pacific, "and is.valued at £400. Domesticated reindeer are being taken to Greenland by Swedish Lapps, who are to teach the Greenlanders how to care for these useful "beasts of burden. :
