THE POLYDORA CASE

DIRECTION FOR REOPENING

ACTION BY CONFERENCE

: A direction that the decision of the , Wellington .Racing Club's judicial - committee in the Polydora caso be reviewed as a caso on appeal to the Wellington district committee has been given by the executive committee of tho Now Zealand Eacing Conference under powers conferred by rule 07 of the Eules of Eacing. The appeal will be heard in AVellingtnn on Tuesday next, October 30. The decision of the Wellington Eacing Club's judicial committee was made after an inquiry into Polydora's running in the AVellington Handicap at Trontham last Saturday. The committee expressed itself, as not satisfied that Polydora had been run on her merits; as required under rule 295, and the punishment inflicted was two months' suspension on tho rider M. Kirwan. Evidence was heard from Kirwan and the mare's trainer, 11. Nurse, tho owner of the maro, Mr. G. Hall, not being at tho moeting. In the race Polydora was always at or near tho rear of the field, but she was finishing on about tenth in the field of thirteen at the post. In itself this was not unusual, as Polydora has beon tailed off in nearly all the races sho has contested, even thoso that she has won. Kirwan was having his first ride since he suffered a broken collarbone and shoulder injuries when Master Reynard fell with him near the finish of a race, at Ashburton last month. Eule 57 of the Eules of Eacing, paragraph (1), is as follows:—"The stipendiary steward, if in his opinion any decision given by the stewards or judicial committee in respect of any inquiry or investigation, or any decision of a district committoe (whether on appeal or otherwise), is unsatisfactory, shall notify tho executive committee to that effect, and the exocutive committee, if satisfied that such decision should be reviewed, may direct it to bo referred to the body which, under these rules, would deal with an appeal from such decision." The stipendiary steward officiating at tho Wellington Meeting was Mr. C. Gomer, the chief stipendiary steward.
