BISHOP'S TRIBUTE

Reference to tlio terrible extent of the tragedies, and a feeling tribute, to the- bravery of Constable Thomas Hoops, who ivas killed by the Maori Hcnaro Hona at Morrinsvilio on Saturday, -ivero made by Bishop Cherrington at St. Peter's Cathedral, Hamilton, last evening. "We earfnot allow such a .sad occasion to pass without referring to the further tragedies which have occurred in our midst," said his Lordship. "One cannot understand how these occurrences come about, but many things are hidden from us. Bravery and courage such as we havo been told of in the last few days are signs of the manhood of the race, and on such an occasion as this wg realise more than beforo the debt we,owe to those who perform diflicult and dangorous tasks to preserve us in 6afety and to keep tho peace of the realm."
Bishop Cherrington added he felt sure that the prayers of all Christian men and women would ascend on bohalf of Constable Hcops, and that their .supplications would ask for the repose of him vim had committed the deeds.
