DUNEDIN'S SPRING CARD

An interesting feature about the Dunedin Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, to be held on October 4 and 6, is an increase in the stakes in some of the minor events. The amount involved is small, but it is welcome evidence of the club's confidence in the future.

There are a few other changes. The Trial Stakes has been altered to the Trial Handicap, and it is for horses who have not won a race at a totalisator meeting. Last year there was a preponderance of sprints. This year the hack handicaps on the first day will be seven furlongs and a mile, while on the second day they will be seven furlongs and a mile and a quarter. The -alterations make for a greatly improved programme.
