Dr. L. C. Benkert, a medical practitioner in Ohio, who is on a tour round the Pacific, arrived in Wellington this morning by the Makura from Earotonga.. . Mr. E. Darrocii, honorary secretary of the New Zealand Navy League, returned to Wellington yesterday after visiting the West Coast schools "under the Nelson Education Board. Judge H. F. Ay son, C.M.G., Eesident Commissioner at Earotonga, arrived by the Makura today on & combined business and holiday visit. ' He will "be in New Zealand for about six weeks. Mr. B. J. Tollis, of Sydney, who has been conducting official investigatiqna regarding educational and agricultural matters in the United States, is a through passenger to Sydney by - the Makura, which arrived today, from San. Francisco. Mr. H. Fisher, of Auckland* -returned by tho .Makura today after a holiday visit to Earotonga. ' "!•''"' ' Mr. Maurice Cohen, who was chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board in 1925, returned for a brief visit to New Zealand by the , Monowai -today. Mr. Cohen is .recovering from the effects of a-severe'operation which, it' was ■ necessary to have performed in Australia, where he spent more than six months in hospital. He will spend a few days in' Wellington and may go to Palmerston North for a.few days, but he has no definite plans.- It ia imperative, that he should find "a .more equable climate than .that of, New Zealand, and he may visit California.. He is accompanied by Mrs. Cohen. , Brevet-Major W; Bridgeford, of the Australian Staff Corps, arrived by; the Monowai today. The Eev. A. Cyril Swainson, who has been vicar of Pahautanui for the past seven years, is to leave this week for Hunterville. A large gathering of residents of Pahautanui, Paremata, Poriraa, Tawa Flat, Titahi Bay, and Plimmerton bade farewell to the vicar and Mrs. Swainson at a dance'in the Riviera Cabaret at; Porirua lecently. Eulogistic speeches were made by Mr. E. W. Bothamley,-.. synodsman for the district, Mr. E. L. Button, and Mr. F. Hassall, the last-named thanking Mrs. Swainson for her work in the interests of the Plunket- Society.
