AUSTRALIAN WHEAT
CHEAPEST IN WORLD
PEOPLE PAY MORE FOR BREAD SYDNEY, March 1. At the wheat inquiry Mr. Ernest Field, president of the Farmers' and Settlers' Association, said that farmers were' supplying the cheapest wheat in the world to Australian mills, yet the people were paying more for bread than any others. The cost of wheat lands bought by the Government for soldier settlements was too high. Mr. Arthur Aston, president of the Farmers' Defence Association, gave evidence that in. 1933 the , position of wheat-farmers appeared almost hopeless. They had been unable to reduce accumulated debts. Tho cost of farm labour had comedown, the rural worker having rftet tho farmer at every turn. The inquiry was adjourned.
