MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt -with cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. On a charge of breaking- and entering a chvelling-house in Shannon Street and committing theft therein, Lawrence Henry Diamond,' aged 22, was remanded 'until next Wednesday. A remand until next Wednesday, was granted in the case of Leonard, Mundell Assketon Harbord, aged 33, a salesman, and Charles Leonard Webb, aged 27, a' salesman, who are jointly charged with the theft of a radio set, valued at £15 the property of H. Nimmo and Sons, Ltd. Chief-Detective Carroll, said there would be several similar charges against tlie two men: Police and summons eases the Magistrate's1 Court today were dealt with by Mr. E. Remands until next Wednesday were granted in the cases of William Edwards, aged 29, a labourer, who is charged with breaking and entering'a house in Oriental Parade and committing theft therein, and of Howard Godfrey .Pudney, aged 20, a labourer, who is charged with breaking and.entering a house in Shannon Street and committing theft therein. For a second statutory offence of drunkenness William , John Doyle, aged Co, was fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment. The theft of a. pair of bloomers from George and Doughty, Ltd., and of eight yards of lace from James Smith, Ltd.,-was admitted by Mary Watts, aged 29, a married woman. She was admitted to probation for two years on the first charge, and on the second she was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon -within two years. Charges of stealing a woollen sweater and two brushes were made against Stanley Tracey, aged 21, a mechanical engineer, and':he ..was convicted and ordered to iiome tip for sentence within twelve months if called upon. Chief-Detective Carroll said that the goods were! taken by Tracey when he left a relief camp at Paraparauniu. ■ Harriet Gandy was convicted of stealing a. frock valued at £4 5s from James Smith, Ltd., and of stealing a. frock and a skirt valued at £2 5s lid, the property of a person unknown.; She was placed on probation for two years and an order was made for the value'of the goods to be restored to the owners'. The ' woman's story was that she had found the articles. An application for the suppression of he!1 name was refused. On a charge of assaulting a nine-year-old girl, Charles Harte, aged 39, a commission agent, Svas convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called 'upon within twelve months. "There -was no doubt that he was very much intoxicated at the time," rcmavked the Magistrate.
