A NORMAL MONTH
WEATHER IN WELLINGTON
ONE BAD SPELL
So far as the weather in 'Wellington was concerned, February proved to be a fairly normal month. The first half was rather changeable with an unpleasant cool spell from tho 7th to the 10th. . The rain from the 6th onwards came at an,opportune time, as lawns and gardens had been suffering from a prolonged shortage and scrub fives were a frequent source of danger to property, following the rains all vegetation became"unusually fresh and green for the time of the year. The amount''of wind was below the average, and there " were no really strong northerlies.' The mean pressure at' 9 aim. was 30.p27 inches. The highest^ was: 30.358 inches on the 25th, and the lowest 29.704 inches'on the Bth. The mean maximum^ temperature was 68.0 degrees, and the normal is 68.4 degrees. i The mean minimum temperature was 1 55.3 degrees,, the normal being 55.0 deI grees. The approximate mean tempera- : ture, therefore, was 61.6 degrees, which iis .very close to the normal. The highest maximum temperature, 76.5 degrees, occurred on the 2nd, and "the lowest minimum, 47.3 degrees, on the 23rd. The mean-minimum temperaturo on the grass was 52.7 degrees, the- previous ' average beingl 49.8 degrees. The lowest minimum on the grass was 40.2 degrees, on ; the 23r,d. LESS WIND-THAN USUAL. The mean run, of wind in. 24 hours was 194 miles, the previous average being 238 miles. Tho highest run for the 24 hours was 3G4 miles for the period which ended at 9 a.m. on the 6th. Only one gale occurred, and 'that was a southerly on the morning of the 9th. Tho total Tainfall was 3.51 inches, 32 per' cent, above the normal. Rain fell on 11 days. Tho period from tho 6th to tho 14th was very-wet, some rain being recorded on each' day. The highest fall was 1.33 inches, on the 7tll. The total sunshine, 210.2 hours, differs little from the previous avcragb of 209 hours, i There were two sunless days. No outstanding meteorological phenomenon occurred during the month.
