SCENIC ROADS
SURVEY TO BE MADE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) ', CHRISTCHURCH, March 1. To investigate the possibility of road-building in South Westla;nd in the Haast Pass region, Mr. J. Wood, assistant engineer of the Public Works Department, and Mr. T. M. Ball, of the Public Works Department, Dunedin, left Christehurch yesterday by aeroplane to make an aerial survey of the area. During the .two or three days the party will be in the mountain country. Mr. Wood hopes to be able to investigate the proposals of the Hon. A. Hamilton for the linking up of the Otago and Southland scenic resorts with the West Coast resorts, so completing a motor j road round, the .island. 1 Mr. Wood will consider the possibility of taking a ' road across the Haast. Pass, either to Central Otago or i south towards the Milford Sound- road. It is '. also, understood the party will 1 investigate alternative-means of access to the region by air/and thus they will keep their eyes open for suitable land-1 ing grounds' and routes. .
