SOLD FOR SOUTH AFRICA
The South African sportsman Sir Joseph Eobinsou, who has had considerable success Avith the three yearlings (Wakatipu, The ,Haka, and Eureka II) ho bought at the National Sales two years ago, recently effected tho purchase of the two-year-old filly Eotorua ■ from Mr. IC. Austin, manager of Elderslio Stud, Ltd., and the youngster left for Sydney on the Marama today, where she will be transhipped to tlie Nestor in continuance of her trip to j Cape Town. | . Eotorua is a bay filly by Night Eaid from the Gay Lad maro Gay Bound, a half-sister to Entreaty, so that she is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to 3?har Lap. She was bred by the late Mr. H. M. Beeves, of Hororata, and at last year's sales she was bought on behalf of Mr. Austin for 55 guineas. She was named Meyrick at first, but Sir Joseph has had the name changed to ftotorua, so as to indicate the land of the filly's origin. Also oii the Marama consigned to Sydney was the aged trotting gelding Peterwah.
