OBJECTS OF LEGION
Tim official opening of the Legion Hall by the Imperial Oversea Legion of Frontiersmen, took place at 108 Taranaki Street, ■Wellington, on Wednesday evening. On declaring tlie hall open, Captain 11. W. llartyn Roberts, area commandant,' spoke on the work of the legion, and for what purpose a branch, had been created in JSTow; Zealand. ■ ■ . • The 1.0.L.P. was created for the purpose of welding together the loyalist manhood of Britain for the advancement of Imperial interests in time- of peace, and. as'an additional safeguard to tho nation, when threatened with war, ho* said. It aspires .to-build, a, mighty corps that shall bo as a bulwark .against internal subversive influences directed against the security of the State. ' jSTo corps in. tho world-had more romance attached to it, no corps in the world could show so many 'war medals and decorations for valour, and no corps had been formed for a more noble purpose. . . . .. It had units scattered throughout the Empire, And beyond its borders. From Hong Kong *to Vancouver, from the Par East to the Par West, from the rising of the sun to its setting, and in all countries on which it shone, in its travels, members were to bo' found. It was a military corps, self-supjiorting, self-governing, free, voluntary, and unpaid. Discipline was strict; not tho discipline of the Army Act, but tho more enduring discipline based on pride in the corps, in its officers, and in its leadership. . The corps is anxious to win the sympathy and active- support of all /patriotic associations, particularly, of those consisting of ex-officers and men. Sirs. "Mountie" Smith was presented with the legion badge for tho service rendered by her .to the legion. Among those present were Captain A. 0. Dickson, A.S.C.,- Legion Captain J. Osborne, A. Squadron, 1.0.L.F,, members of the Women's Auxiliary Nursing Service, and members of the 1.0. L.F., Padre J. K. Muir, and Lieut. G. 11. Ivo Adams. ,
