INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE
At a recent meeting of the executive council of the JJew Zealand Institute of Horticulture, the chairman (Mr. F. S. Pope) welcomed the new members appointed at the January conference—Captain Sanderson and Mr". F. J. Shanks, representing the New Zealand Kative Bird Protection Society and Horticultural Societies respectively. It was reported that Sir William Lawrence, recently elected an honorary overseas member, had died in January, and it was resolved to forward a letter of -condolence to his widow. The secretary reported the action taken on the remits adopted at the recent conference, and it was decided to adopt a recommendation from the Auckland District: Council that, at each' annual ference, a report should be tabled showing the" steps takeu to give effect to the remits passed at the preceding conference. • Conference approval., of the' amended syllabus, reinstitution :of exa-mm-ations-under group 8,. for candidates , with ' extended horticultural experience, and -of schemes of examination for seedsmen arid florists, were noted, for. submission to the examining board.
