A "STOCKING LEAGUE"

KHANDALLAH EFFORT

RECORD OF FINE WORK

For years past the Khandallah Stocking League has worked consistently each year to provide clothing "comforts for some of those families who are unable to get more than the bare necessities of life for themselves, both in London at the East Ham Mission .and in pur own city of Wellington, mainly through the agency of' the Plunket Society. ' The name Stocking League is a misnomer, for garments of every description are made, the league depending on the thoughtfulncss and .generosity of the public for parcels of materials to be. made or remade into useful garments for babies, small children, and women. Each year as Christmas draws near a big case is packed, and sent to England to th'e^ast Ham Mission, in addition to constant parcels going out to the needy cases in the Wellington district. i Last year (through the columns of this paper) an appeal was made fox parcels of second-hand material, tops of woollen stockings, still-good skirts of woollen nightdresses, men's worn woollen' underwear, felt * hats for little slippers, faded or torn knitted garments to be unravelled and reknitted into cosy garments; in fact, everything that could, be converted into warm, and practically new garments. ■ The first meeting of 1934 will bo on March 20. at the, residence of Mrs; R. G. C. Ffitch, Clarke Street, Khandallah. New members "will be very; welcome this ■year, and as material to begin the year's work is .badly wanted parcels will also be gratefully received. Intending members or givers of parcels are attked to telephone or write Mrs. Ffitch, Khandallah (telephone 37-841) when arrangements, for receiving the parcels in town will be made to suit the giver. A generous response is earnestly hoped, for this very worth-while work, and no parcel will be regarded as too small or too large.
