KILBIRNIE SCHOOL JUBILEE

■ Fifty years ago the Kilbirnie School came into being, and the- jubilee is to be celebrated at the end of this week, special arrangements having been made for a big gathering worthy of'the occasion. The school was opened on January 28, 1884, Miss Chatwyn being headmistress. Of 41 scholars enrolled on the first day, many will be present at the jubilee functions, and with them there will be others of the 87 pupils on the roll by the end of the first year. The- committees which have functioned in connection with the school will also be well represented, among those coming for the celebrations being Mr. A. Faulkiner, chairman of the first committee of the school, now resident at Eketahuna. Ex-members of the school [staff will''also participate. A noteI worthy event will be the calling of the roll of the scholars enrolled on the school's opening day in 1884, this function to be performed by Mr. J. H. Worboys, who was headmaster from 1896 to 1922. -
