Mr. P. J. O 'Regan has returned from Napier, where he has been attending the sittings of the Supreme Court. Mr. P. R. Sargood, of Dunedin, and member of the firm of Sargood, Son, and Ewen, is at present visiting "Wellington. Cabled advice has just been received of the death of Archdeacon Herbert C. Izard, a brother of the late Hon. Charles H. Izard. For many years he was Archdeacon of Singapore, but latterly had lived in retirement at Worthing, Sussex. Mr. E. A. Gibson, of the Christchurch office of the Public Works Department, has been transferred to the Wellington office as engineer-in-charge of aerodrome construction under the Department. Mr. George Newman Hunt, of Wakefield, Nelson, a well-known Romney breeder, died suddenly' yesterday afternoon while on a visit to Blenheim (states a Press Association message). He was 69 years of age. An Auckland message states that a call to the Rev. W. Gilmour, of the Balmoral Presbyterian Church, from the congregation of the Kent Terrace Church, Wellington, was considered at a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery. After Mr. Gilmour had expressed his desire of accepting the call, the Presbytery passed a resolution placing it in his hands. Mr. Gilmour's induction will take place on March 15. - r A motion of sympathy .vith the relatives of the late Mr. D. Murray Kean was passed at last evening's meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. Mr. A. G. Henderson, who presided, mentioned several outstanding factors contributing to Mr. Kean's success in the tennis world; he had had a great enthusiasm for the .game and a rare gift for organisation and attention to detail. ~The association's loss of Mr. Kean as its secretary was a severe one. Mr. Joseph Wesney retired yesterday after fifty-two years of insurance service, during the last twenty years of which he was Wellington branch manager of the Union Assurance Society, Ltd. On Tuesday a presentation of a travelling rug and a cheque was made to him by the Wellington Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association, the speakers being Messrs. V. M. Edgar, K. Mason, and A. J. Hyder, superintendent for N'c\\\ Zealand of the Union Assurance Society, and several others. All spoke of Mr. Wesney'a sterling qualities and capabilities. Yesterday Mr. Wesney was met by Mr. Hyder and the local staff of the society and was presented with a gold watch and a pair of crystal dishes for Mrs. Wesney. Reference was made to Mr. Wesney's unfailing courtesy and sympathetic understanding of staff and general insurance matters. Mr. Wesney suitably replied.
