CONSUMPTION GROWS
A FIRMER MARKET
DANISH SHIPMENT
According to cablegrams received by tho New Zealand Dairy Produce .Board, increased consumption is the reason for tho firmer tone, in the dairy produco market at Howe. Latest reports quote New Zealand butter at 73s per cwt, and cheese at from 44s to 47s per cwt. The Dairy Board has received the following report from London:— The firmer market is duo to substantially increased consumption at low retail prices. Consumption is now estimated at at least 9000 tons a week. Many buyers, including importers, have acquired reserved stocks in consequence. Another message to the board indicates that definite action is being taken by Denmark to regulate shipments to Britain. It reads: — .' Denmark is considering a proposal to form a pool to regulato the quantity availablo for weekly shipment to Great Britain, the surplus to bo purchased with authority ,for disposal , either locally or iv any other available market. Details of the British Government's price-guarantee scheme for milk producers.aro given in another cablegram received by tho board. The message is as follows:— "The British Government announces its intention to guarantee a minimum price to their producers for milk mauufacturcd^ into butter and cheese, the guaranteed minimum to be: Winter (October to March), 6d per gallon; summer (April to November), 5d per gallon; funds to be found by tho Exchequer. Advnnces for two years, commencing April 1, are estimated at £1,500,000 yearly. The advances are to be repaid if possible after April, 193.6, and then only if the price of the cheese imported is equivalent to a minimum of 7d per gallon' in winter and 6d per gallon, in summer. Repayment to Exchequer of advances is dependent on a sufficient high price "level during the years 1930-38,; by regulation of imports, or' other causes, to.-;pr6ducb.rover ,7d in winter, or 6d in 'summer. If this is not -realised for the .two years -1936----.1938, advances or any outstanding"balance will become finally chargeable to the.
