ITS YEARLY FLAME
As soon as darkness set in on New Year's Eve, an ancient lantern was lighted on the tower of Weldon Church near Kettering, England. For centuries a flame burned on the tower every night to guide travellers through the 'dense and dangerous Eockingham Forest. That is not necessary now, and the lantern is lighted only on this one night of the year to light the Old Year out and the New Year in.
