Grose, president of the Navy League, Mr. E. ]Jarrdch'presented the Palmer Prize to Jbaii'Mitchener, who had won it in open; competition with all the girls of New Zealand between the ages of 14 and'.lS. ,The winner is just over 14. Mr.;'Darrocti explained that the competition* .was founded by the Wellington branch seventeen years ago in honour of Mr. C. W. Palmer, the first secretary, who held office for twelve and a half years, and was still a member of the executive. The competition is divided into six classes open to all the schools of New Zealand, public and private, primary, secondary, and technical. The prize presented was "The Endless Story," by Captain Taprell Dorling, D.5.0., T\R. Hist.S., R.N. ("Taffrail"), who will arrive in Wellington on Christmas Day.
