FAIR AND WARM
SLIGHT PROSPECTS OF RAIN
Light to moderate, but freshening northerly winds, are indicated in the forecast issued at noon today. Although on the west coast of the South Island and in far southern districts the weather is likely to become unsettled with rain developing, the remainder of the Dominion will continue to experience fair weather, but with am increase ill haze and cloudiness. Temperatures will bo warm, especially so in eastern districts. Fair, warm, and hazy weather has continued to prevail over the whole Dominion. Northerly winds have been the rule, and these, although freshening somewhat in and to the south of Cook Strait, have been generally light to , moderate. The anticyclone since yesterday has made a little progress eastward, but not enough to allow the depression lying over the Tasman Sea to: approach at the normal rate. The latter is therefore likely to become less intense or to fade out altogether, as several others have done recently, hence the prospects of widespread and beneficial rain are not at all promising. It was fine and hot in Auckland again yesterday, the wind there being a light northerly. Wellington had a rather dull morning, but the afternoon was sunny and hot. The maximum temperature was 71.6 degrees and 8.9 hours of bright sunshine were recorded. The wind was a north-westerly breeze. Christehurcli had fair but mainly cloudy weather, the maximum temperature recorded during the day being 71, degrees. A light south-westerly changed to the north-east during the afternoon. Dunedin had fine and ■warm weather .with a light north-easterly jnnjj
