A WARNING
(To the Editor.) Sir,—On behalf of the Slotuefca District Unemployment Committee, I am-writing to ask if you would kindly publish a warning against unemployed workers coming to this district in the hope of obtaining work. There is obsolutely no work available at the present time owing to the abnormally dry season, which is, now bordering on a drought, and also to the fact that tobacco contracts have been cut down by half. Unless rain appears soon it will also affect the fruit yield. \We have an overplus of labour here now, both in the unemployed registrations and otherwise, and there is' no hope that there will be any surplus employment available even later in the season. We issue this warning in order to save men the expense of the trip here and disappointment at this end when no work can be obtained. The committee is entirely a voluntary organisation, and has no funds upon which to draw, and hopes you may kindly see your way to publish this warning.—l am, etc;, C. E. MORRISON, ~ •, • ■ ■ ■ Hon. Secretary. . Motueka, December 12.
