ST. PATRICK'S COLLEGE
PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY
The ceremony of the distribution^ of prizes won by pupils of St. Patrick s College, Silverstream, took place at the college yesterday afternoon in the presence of a large number of parents and friends of the college. The Hector of the college, the iiev. Father J. Bowling, whose speech was reported in yesterday's issue, welcomed Archbishop Kedwood, and apolosised ior the absence of Archbishop O'Shea. Archbishop Kedwood, who was greeted with prolonged applause, said it gave him pleasure to be present, and he regarded at as an honour to be asked to present the prizes. He congratulated the boys on having a college at which they received training for this world and the next. They Were a very short time in this world, for what was a lifetime compared with, eternity? The boys were prepared intellectually, morally, and physically, and in other ways, at the college. Parents had a duty towards God to give their children the best education possible. Men of character and intellect were needed today to combat the forces of evil that wanted not only to overthrow the Church but God Himself. The Archbishop made the point that boys should regard character training as more precious than anything else in their school career. He congratulated the college orchestra, which he described as fit to play before any audience, on ita playing, and the singing of the choir he regarded as delightful. The orchestra, under the baton of Father C. Feehly, played several numbers most acceptably. The college choir gave a number of songs, and blended harmoniously with the orchestra. One or two other items were given.
