CHILDREN'S FETE

UPPER HUTT SPORTS

Four hundred children of relief workers throughout the Upper Hutt district, and their parents, were entertained by the president of the Citizens' Belief Committee (Mrs. Adams) at Maidstone Park on Saturday. Sports were fun by a most efficient men's committee, which also distributed the ice cream and balloons. A ladies' committee attended to the food and drinks. A brief speech was made by the Mayor of Upper Hutt (Mr. A. J. McCurdy), and the afternoon's events were terminated by the distribution of prizes by Mrs. Adams. The results of the sports were as follows: — Boys' Races. —5 years, Jack Chap-man-Taylor 1, Lewis Brown 2, Leslie Leveridge 3; 6-8 years, Rex Bucknell 1, Harold Brown 2, Clere Maekie 3; 9-11 years, Douglas Moulder 1, Max Batchelor 2, Bob Melville 3; 12-14 years, Victor Humphreys 1, Allen Marsclen 2, Tom Bennett 3. Girls' Races. —5 years, Ida Ilewson 1, Esme Brown 2, Nellie Duncan 3; 6-8 years, Lulu Bucknell 1, Mary Severn 2, Mollie Melville 3; 9-11 years, Freda Humphreys 1, Olive Holland 2, June Melville 3; 12-14 years, Phyllis Albon 1, Janet Peggie 2, Alma Oliver 3; girls, 5-6 years, special prize donated by Mr. S..Clarke, Rae Matinga 1.
