SYNOD RESOLUTION
[By Telegraph.—l'ress Association.)
CHRISTCHUECH, October 19.
The Anglican Synod this evening carried the following resolution: "That this Synod requests the Government and the Unemployment Board to explore more persistently the possibilities of using present and any increased finance to put men and women bach into ordinary employment.''
The motion was submitted by the Eev. P. Kevell, City Missioner, who said h?« work brought him in contact with many people who were near the bread line and below it. Much, had been given by charity to amplify subsistence ivages by goods, but the burden of this charity was becoming very great. It was difficult to avoid the dangers of pauperisation. The people who came to, the depots obviously felt they were begging, and hated doing it. The present policy of the Unemployment Board was an emergency one. The Government deserved credit for what it had done, but it seemed that the time had arrived when these temporary measures should be superseded by something more permanent to get people back- into ordinary channels of employment.
Discussion on the motion was very brief, as little time "was available. It was decided to send copies of the resolution to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Employment.
