GOLD HOLDING

BANK OF NEW SOUTH WALES

The Bank of New South Wales announces that its holding of gold coin in New ■ Zealand in August, 1914, was £680,000; in September, 1933, £811,881 Increase in gold doin, £131,884. This announcement confirms the recent statement of the chairman of the Associated Banks that gold coin now held by the banks and the gold coin exported by them could represent, to only a minor extent, gold coin received from the public of New Zealand since bank-notes became legal tender in 1914. The figures of the Bank of New South Wales show that there has been an excess of imports over exports of gold coin by that bank since 1914 of but £357,000.
