Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that! the 'defendant had lived with Khusal front time to time '" sines last May* They had had frequent quarrels, and; Khusal had tried to get.rid of her* Last ITriday morning Khusal went to{ his garage to start his Vegetable* hawking lorry and the defendant fob lowed him. There was some disputai over money, and the defendant picked up a hammer and hit Khusal on tha head with it. Khusal was removed to the hospital, but he had not snffered any permanent injury. The seniorsergeant mentioned that, the defendant* had been a patient at the Sunnysido Mental Hospital.

Materia's explanation, was that Khusal had. attacked her as sho was leaving the garage, pulling her hair and punching,.kicking, and biting her. Sha had hit him in self-defence.
