CRUELTY NOT PROVED
S.P.C.A. OFFICIAL PROSECUTED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
"There is not the slightest evidence before me which suggests wanton cruelty to the dog, and the charge will therefore be dismissed," said Mr. W. E. McKean after hearing evidence for two hours in a private prosecution.
An officer of the S.P.C.A. named F. T. Danvers was- charged, on the information of Mrs. Heron, with cruelty to a dog which was taken to the society's animal liomo on M,iv 23.
The Magistrate commented that it was extraordinary that such a charge concern ing an alleged event, in May should not come up till September. It looked !\s if the informant had been actuated by some other motive. The defendant was allowed costs.
