FRED LEADER'S, DEATH
TRAGIC NOTE AT ASCOT

' ..LONDON, June 23. Very soon after the victory of Gainslaw in the Gold Vase at the Ascot Meeting his able and well-known trainer, Mr. G. V. Leader, was involved in. a motor accident on the way back to Newmarket. Mr. and Mrs. Leader were both killed, and their nephew, Mr. Geoffrey Leader, who was driving, was injured.. After passing over the biw of the lull on the Stevenage side of Knebworth, their car collided with the rear of a stationary lorry and trailer. The body of the car was ripped off by the force of the impact. A doctor was soon on the spot, but Mr. and Mrs. Leader were dead. Geoftrey Leader was conscious but dazed. Fred Leader, a popular and well-known figure on the Turf, was one of tour brothers, all of whom train at Newmarket. Ho was the third member of the family. News of the terrible tragedy, cast a gloom over Ascot next day. G. ]?. Leader was well-known as a rider before he became eminent as a Newmarket trainer, lliere is an orphaned son, three years old.
