ENJOYABLE MUSICALE
A large gathering of members was present at the ■ fortnightly meeting of the German Club, held at the rooms of the New Zealand Educational Institute recently, when a most enjoyable programme-of music arranged by Dr. Greta Short was given. Miss Laurie Anderson and Mr. Gordon Short played a Beethoven sonata fo* violin and piano with lino effect. As solos Miss Anderson played "Midnight Bells (Heubcrgcr-Kroisler) and "Schon Kosmarin" (Kreisler) with sweet tone and elegant style. Mrs. J.'E..Ramsay sang in German nml with cultured and ■convincing musicianship two groups and songs, "Die Post" and "Aufenthalt" (Schubert), "Snpphischc Ode" and "Sonntag" (Brahms),- and "Haidenroslcin" -(Werner). ~ ■ Mr. Gordon Short delighted all with his finished artistry in the following pianoforte solos: Scottish Dances (Bcet-haven'-D'Albert), Andante and Intermezzo (Brahms), and two Viennese waltzes (Godowsky). During the evening Mr. Short gave a number of illuminating comments upon the chief musical features of the various works given.
The German Consul, Mr. AY. Pcnseler, proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the artists, which was enthusiastically received. Supper" and . informal chat concluded a delightful evening..
