Russia or Africa?
It was stated a few weeks ago that Paul Eobeson, the famous negro singer, has planned a vist to Russia to study and absorb the spirit of liussian music, with which he declared he felt strong sympathy. AVhether or not he was -misunderstood as expressng a hope rather than an intention, he is now said by a London correspondent of a South African paper, to be contemplating an early tour of South Africa. He has just gone (May 4) to America to make a film of' Eugene O'Neill's play "Emperor Jones," and on his return to England in the autumn will begin preparation for a South African tour.
He has been thinking of going to South Africa for some time, he said in an interview. A concert bureau had also approached him with a view to arranging a series of concerts in the Union. He had, however, been unable to accept the offer, and in any case if he decided to come, he would wish to bring'a company with him for the presentation of plays.
