lit the British am.-iteur golf final at Hoylako the Hon. Michael Scott defeated T. A. Bourn, 4up and' 3 to play, The former was 5 up on the morning round. Bourn ivas the English champion, in 1930, and Tvas beaten by John Woollams in the English championship in May last. • . • ••
The final was followed by a largo crowd. The veteran Scott took the lead early in the first round,' winning' tho first and third. He turned three up with 38 strokes to his opponent's 42. Ho increased this to five in the second nine holes, chiefly owing to Bourn's indifferent putting. Tho scores at the end of the first round were: Scott, 76; Bourn, 82.* ■;•"• ■ ■
In .the second round Scott was seem-inly-tired and ,lost the first two, but a fine four at the third, when he laid an approach putt dead, suggested a restoration of his confidence. Bourn won the fourth and the next two were exchanged. Bourn at the 'seventh fajled with an eight feet putt, and Scott escaped with a half. He was still three up-and won the eighth, although bunkered, and a perfect half at the ninth left the veteran with four up, with nine to play.
Again at the tenth Bourn's putting failed. Only a magnificent chip shot saved him at the eleventh, where Scott's long putt for a two hung on. the lip of the hole. Scott was bunkered at the twelfth. Bourn was then four down with six.to play. The thirteenth and fourteenth were halved, and Scott was four up with four to play. Tlio fifteenth, where the ..match ended, was halved in six, Scott being bunkered and Bourn, slicing into the rough, dropping tho next shot. The second round scores were: Scott, 67; Bourn, 65.
