JOHNSONVILLE-UPPER HUTT
Conditions at Maidstone Park were good for the match between Johnsonville and Upper Hutt. There was only a fair attendance of spectators when Johnsonville kicked off. Upper Hutt fielded a much-weakened team, but, contrary to expectations, put lip a great iight against their much heavier opponents in a game that was not very spectacular, although there were several bright incidents. The teams were:—Upper Hutt: Avery; Oliver, E Hughes, Wakelin; Edwards, Wellington; Greenbank; Potts, Wyeth (2), McGregor, Harding, Campbell, Auld, and Felling. Johnsonville: Kenny; Helliwell, Moore, Mason; Chancy, Turner; Money; Bowler, Chick, Craig, A. Kenny, J. Helliwell, Welsh, jSTossiter, and Cathcart. lor the first twenty minutes the game consisted of scrambling'play, with Johnsonville having a slight advantage, and from a loose rush Cathcart scored. Play livened up a bit after this, and Wellington made two very fine runs which missed scores through lack of support. Upper Hutt continued to bustle Johnsonville, and Greenbank scored from a scrum. Both teams showed improved form in the second spell, Johnsonville scoring a very nice try when Chancy slipped round the blind side and handed to Mason, who scored in the corner. Turner kicked a meat goal. Upper Hutt tried hard to equalise, but, although getting plenty of ball from the scrums, faulty handling by the three-quarter line nullified the ettorts of Wellington and Greenbank. In the latter stages Turner kicked a penalty goal, and Johnsonville won by 11 points to 3. Mr G. Heley was the referee.
