HUTT AND HUIA DRAW
On -the Hutt Becrcaiion Ground, Hiitt and Huia:played a drawn game; the final store being 2-all. The soggy state of the ground prevented fast play, but the standard of hockey was surprisingly good. The ganio-was characterised by bright*, and snappy passing on the part of both teams. For the first fifteen minutes, Huia played rine; man short, and this allowed Hutt to have a territorial advantage. During this period of the game Huia's defence was severely tested, but they, proved equal to the strain and held the Hutt forwards well in check until a particularly aggressive move on the part of the Reds allowed J\idi a scoring opportunity, of which he was not slow to take advantage. At halftime Hutt were leading 2-1, Martin having scored Huia's goal and Stoupe Hutt's second one. Stoupe's goal "was a brilliant one. He sent a rising ball into the net from a very difficult angle. In the second spell Huia played more to advantage, and they. equalised in the final stages of the game, a seat goal beWg edored by Wheatley. ' There was "little to choose between the two teams. Smallwood played a< fine game for Hutt, and beat his opponent to the ball time after time. McDonald, McLeod, and Gray also showed up well. The first-named is one of the fastest members oi the team, and at times he was inclined to overrun the ball. He centred nicely on Saturday. The Huia team made some nice breakaway movements, but some of the players were a little erratic in their, stickwork, Millen and Donald played well. Jluia. were perhaps unlucky not to score the winning goal; The ball found the net, but there was some doubt as to whether or not it Was hit from in|ide the circle. The light was failing fast, and as the referee could riot determine the position of the liall when it was hit, he gave the defenders the benefit of the doubt. Mr. W. Scott was the referee.
