EXCHANGE TEACHERS
Mrs. J. Mackenzie presided over the Victoria League May Committee ingIn response to a request from the London headquarters asking the league's hospitality in New Zealand for six exchange teachers, it was stated that advice had been received from the different branches concerned that their members were getting into touch with them. Through the kindness of Mrs. Tripp (before she left for England) members of the committee were able to meet Miss Constance Young, who had brought out a number of children to the Pairbridge Farm Settlement, in Western Australia. Mrs. Paish wrote stating that she had been in touch with the mother of a girl who for a time was a governess in New Zealand, and the mother remarked on the kindness shown by New Zealand members. The hope was expressed that Miss1 Edith Thompson, C.B.E. (who is accompanied by Miss Olive Hargreayes) will be able to meet members during her tour of New Zealand. In answer to inquiries made by relatives at Homo (through the
5.0.5.8. W.) about relatives in New Zealand, letters it was stated had been written and hospitality offered and received. Final arrangements were made for the "Magazine and" Book" tea, which was postponed till early in June, so that it will not clash with the Y.W.C.A. "Street Day," for which Mrs. Pow is taking a Victoria League cake and produce stall. Mrs. I.'Levy undertook to arrange the musical programme. Letters of appreciation for, books received were read from the Urowera country, and from a Maori country school. It was stated that seven members had visited at the Public Hospital for a fortnight. Gifts of flowers, sweets, fruit, small cakes, and magazines were j taken, and lonely people found who were glad of a visitor. One needy patient was cared for until the end, and her' funeral attended. A home and work were found for the patient s j young son.
