NAZIS AND DANZIG
' DANZIG, May 26. German Nazis, including the exKaiser's son, Prince August Willielm, attended a demonstration of 6000 Danzig Nazis, at which Herr Bruckner, one of Heir Hitler's adjutants, violently denounced Dr. Zcihm, the Nationalist President of the Danzig Senate. Herr Brucknerj attacked the city's system of government, and declared that the- elections on May 29 would enable the Nazis to seize power in Danzig by legal means. Ho. closed his speech by crying "Hail, Hitler."
Under the Treaty, of Versailles, the city of Danzig, with the, surrounding territory .(constituting a total area of about 726 square miles, with a population estimated at 390,000), was set up as a free city tinder the protection of the League of Nations, Poland undertaking to conduct the city's foreign affairs. The free city was constituted on November 15, 1920, with an executive Senate and an elected "Legislature of 72 members. ■ The harbour is administered by a mixed board of Poles and Danzigers under a neutral President, and the League of Nations is represented by a resident High . Commis-' sioner. ' In January, 1922, the free city entered the Polish. Customs Union.
