MAJESTIC THEATRE.
has a spectacular part in llnlversal's thrilliug circus picture, "The nig Cage," which heads the new bill at.the Majestic Theatre. His act In the show itself consists of working twenty lions and twenty tigers together in the same cage, a procedu.ro previously declared to bo impossible owing to the ferocity .of the big cats' mutual hatred. It proof were needed that the animals are not tame beasts spurred to action by whip and pistol, it is afforded by the scenes which show a lion aud a tiger, both magnificent specimens, fighting in the arcua. Beatty displays remarkable control over the beasts and an equally remarkable lack uf fear when putting his charges through their paces, although there are times when it is touch and go wtlh him. Tho picture abounds with thrills, particularly when a tiger Is accidentally let louse ou the waterfrout, and again when the animals, maddened by a thunderstorm during the climax of tho big act, escapo from Hie arena and threaten to charge the audience. .Incidentally. Universal havo shown that it is uot necessary to charge a picture with romance to make It entertaining. There Is certainly a love clement, but "The .Dig Cage" purports to be a circus picture, and relics on the thrills always associated with lions aud tigers for Its principal attraction. Co-starred with Clyde Beatty Is Anita l'agc, and others In the cast include) Andy Devine, Viuco Uemictl, llaymourt Hatton. and Wallace. Ford. The picture affords an interesting insight into circus life, and there is no doubt that it has much to recommend it. A splendid programme Is made up by two Universal Xewsrecls, an Oswald the Rabbit cartoon, and a comedy in which the popular James Gleason appears.
