MALNUTRITION

CASES OF CHILDREN

(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, May 25. "There are. cases of ill-nourished children in schools every year,"- said a headmaster with experience in a number of primary schools of tho Auckland Province, when discussing the subject of malnutrition among the children. "Theso cases havo been, and still arc, the subject of observation and inquiry by toachers. ' , : "My experience shows, that malnutrition is attributable to two or three causes," he continued. "There are children who suffer from parental neglect, others whoso parents are food cranks, and others children of the extremely poor." In dealing with tiie first class, it had at times been necessary to call in the Child "Welfare Officer, who had visited the home of the pupil and impressed upon the parents the necessity for proper attention and food. "This course usually had beneficial results,"- he said, "though at times extreme measures had to bo threatened by the welfare' officer. The problem of children whose parents believed in unusual dieting was more difficult, for it was hard to convince them that they were doing their children grave harm/ He cited the case of a child, weak in physique and mentality, whose play lunch consisted of a raw carrot, and piidday meal of bread with a greasy concoction which-■ was repulsive even to an adult.

A price war between barbers in East Boston, Massachusetts, brought' the price of a shave and a hair cut to a penny each. ■
